📚 Curriculum – Learning Through Play, Discovery & Care

 

At Ardwick Day Nursery, our curriculum is built on the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and Birth to Five Matters guidance. These frameworks provide the foundation for high-quality early years education and care, ensuring that every child receives the best possible start in life.

Our goal is to create a rich, stimulating and nurturing environment where children feel safe, curious and confident to explore, learn, and thrive.

We believe that children learn best through play — through meaningful, hands-on experiences both indoors and outdoors. Our curriculum is designed to build each child’s confidence, independence, self-esteem, and love of learning.

  • We support personal, social and emotional development by creating secure relationships and encouraging positive friendships.

  • We build strong communication and language skills through songs, stories, and rich conversations.

  • We enhance physical development with plenty of active play and outdoor exploration.

  • We encourage early literacy and numeracy through interactive, child-led experiences.

  • We celebrate each child’s unique interests, culture and learning style by tailoring activities to their developmental stage.

Every day, children can choose from a variety of activities designed to extend their learning. Our practitioners skilfully observe, listen, and guide — ensuring that learning remains fun, meaningful, and child-centred.

🧠 Areas of Learning and Development

 

Our curriculum covers all seven areas of learning within the EYFS framework:

  1. Communication and Language – developing speech, listening skills and confidence.

  2. Physical Development – supporting both fine and gross motor skills through movement and play.

  3. Personal, Social and Emotional Development – building independence, resilience and strong relationships.

  4. Literacy – fostering early reading and writing through stories, phonics and mark making.

  5. Mathematics – exploring numbers, shapes, patterns and problem-solving through everyday experiences.

  6. Understanding the World – encouraging curiosity about people, places, nature and technology.

  7. Expressive Arts and Design – inspiring imagination and creativity through art, music, role play and more.

Our planning is flexible, responsive, and child-led, ensuring that every child can progress at their own pace and build solid foundations for future learning.

🤝 Strong Partnerships with Parents

 

We believe that parents and carers are children’s first educators. At Ardwick Day Nursery, we work in close partnership with families to ensure each child receives consistent support and care.

  • We use EY Log (online learning journal) to keep parents fully informed about their child’s day, progress and achievements.

  • We maintain regular communication through email, phone calls and social media updates.

  • We share weekly posts with activity updates and suggestions on how parents can support learning at home.

  • We welcome parent feedback and involvement in events, workshops and planning.

By working together, we build a strong and supportive home–nursery link that benefits every child’s learning journey.

👩‍🏫 Highly Qualified & Passionate Staff

 

Our team of early years practitioners is at the heart of everything we do.

  • All staff are qualified in early years education and WellComm trained, enabling them to create individualised education plans for each child.

  • Staff hold Paediatric First Aid certificates and receive ongoing professional development in safeguarding, SEND support, EYFS best practice and more.

  • Our practitioners are trained to use sensitive, skilled interactions to extend children’s thinking, language, and problem-solving skills.
